iSpring Competition Project
I participate in the early 2025 iSpring Course Creation Contest with this microlearning module. To my greatest surprise and honour, I came 4th place in the start category.
The aim of the module is to educate about how to recycle household waste in Spain because this is something very close to my heart. I believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to recycle and protect the environment as best as we can.
What I have realised during my years of living in Spain is that the non-Spanish speaking foreign residents do not necessarily know about the Spanish recycling process since it can be significantly different from that of their home country. With that in mind, I designed a simple, 10-minute course that distils down the most important points. The learner, or recycler, can also download a recycling job aid which can be printed out. It only contains images to support those whose first language is not English. There is also a practical element, where the learner can test their understanding by sorting through common household waste.
As part of the competition’s requirements, I included a knowledge test at the end of the module.
One of the great takeaways for me, personally, is just how important it is to follow your brief. To me, the competition requirements are equivalent to the client’s needs and requirements. They are the, arguably, most important things that should guide an instructional designer’s work.
